Vimshottari dasha is the most widely used timing system in Jyotisha: a 120-year cycle of nine planetary periods (mahadashas), each divided into sub-periods (antardashas) and sub-sub-periods (pratyantardashas). Your sequence is seeded by the Moon’s exact sidereal position at birth.
The calculator computes the Moon with the Swiss Ephemeris, applies the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsha, converts your birth time to UTC using the birthplace’s historical time-zone record, and lays the cycle out with a 365.2425-day year — the same conventions as the paid reading, published in full in the methodology.

Why the exact birth time matters
If your birth clock is a bit off, the dates slide a bit — and near an edge even the driver can change. So the more exact your time, the tighter the dates.

The Moon moves roughly its own diameter every hour, so a birth time that is off by thirty minutes can shift the dasha balance by weeks — and near a nakshatra boundary it can change the entire sequence.
If you only know your time roughly, treat the period boundaries as approximate, and read how birth-time accuracy changes a chart for what stays reliable.
What a dasha period does — and does not — mean
A turn is a season, not a promise. And your details are used once and thrown away — nothing is saved, nobody emails you.
Traditionally, a mahadasha colours a stretch of life with the significations of its lord, filtered through that planet’s condition in your chart. It is a symbolic lens for reflection, not a scientifically validated prediction — astrology has not demonstrated predictive power in controlled studies, and no dasha period guarantees or forbids any event.
